Water solubility above 0.5% can be problematic. Allantoin should be dissolved in water at 50°C or added at 25°C with stirring. It is insoluble in commonly used oils, and a pH between 4 and 8 is recommended.
2. What should I not mix with allantoin?
The ingredient pairs well with retinol, an anti-aging remedy. However, it should not be combined with exfoliants like alpha and beta hydroxy acids, as this may cause allergic reactions or skin irritation.
3. Is allantoin powder heat sensitive?
Allantoin is stable at a pH range of 3-8 and under prolonged heating up to 80°C. It is compatible with most ingredients in personal care formulations. However, water solubility above 0.5% can be problematic.
