I have very thin fine hair that tends to get dry easily. DL-panthenol is added to all of my hair products (shampoo & conditioner bars, hair masks, and leave-in conditioner spray). It strengthens my hair and seems to help it retain moisture. It also leaves my hair feeling soft and smooth. A little goes a long way but I would never want to be without it.
