Cetearyl alcohol is a plant-derived, biodegradable co-emulsifier and thickening agent. It adds emollient properties and body to products without making them feel heavy or greasy. The alcohol comes as a solid, waxy pellet that can be melted and added to oil-based or emulsified products.
Cetearyl Alcohol is a multifunctional fatty alcohol derived from natural sources like coconut oil. The alcohol comes in pellet form (flakes) and is used in enhancing lotions, creams, and hair conditioners. Cetearyl Alcohol is an emollient, emulsifier, and thickener, and can be used in water-in-oil emulsions, oil-in-water emulsions, and anhydrous formulations-cream, lotion, ointment, body butter, salt scrubs.
Cetearyl Alcohol is a non irritating or drying ingredient with a mild nature, making it suitable for use on all skin types, including sensitive skin.

1. Can Cetearyl Alcohol be used to stabilize/emulsify oil based deodorant?
We have not tested or used Cetearyl Alcohol in this type of application before. We would recommend you use a small test batch first!
2. Does this have any odor to it?
It is almost entirely scentless.
3. Does Cetearyl alcohol clog pores?
If you are acne-prone, Cetearyl Alcohol may clog pores. According to the Comedogenic Rating, Cetearyl is considered a 2, which means it may cause issues as it is best to stick with products/ingredients that are predominantly 0’s, 1’s and 2’s.
